August Bank Holiday

Today is August Bank Holiday in England and Wales and Northern Ireland. It was one of the first statutory holidays created to give workers of all kinds a break from work while the weather was still warm.  It is a good day to rest from work as summer gradually comes to an end.

A Quiet Week In London

London in the week before the August Bank holiday is a very quiet place. There is little traffic and few people. The streets are mainly empty, outside the places where tourists visit, and a peaceful quietude is pleasant to enjoy. Families are on holiday outside the city and airports are full of people while the streets are empty. Continue reading
