A Quiet Week In London

London in the week before the August Bank holiday is a very quiet place. There is little traffic and few people. The streets are mainly empty, outside the places where tourists visit, and a peaceful quietude is pleasant to enjoy. Families are on holiday outside the city and airports are full of people while the streets are empty.

The weather is warm and today he sun shines brightly. Next week the families will have returned and the mass of people in London will have increased as Londoners return to their homes and schools.

To live in London in this time is to live in a place where the resources of the city can meet its needs. Next week, as the mass increases, the roads will be full, as will the buses and underground trains and London will become a less pleasant place because it will be full of people, just like the world, which is full of people.
