The War in Afghanistan

On 26th June 2010 I wrote in these posts that it was time to end the unwinnable campaign of fighting in Afghanistan. Since then more than a hundred British soldiers have died and many soldiers and fighters of other nationalities have also died. I have no military experience and no claim to foresight, but it struck me that the whole Afghanistan war was misconceived from the outset. It is a war for which there was no popular support and although most of use supported the troops and wished them well, we must not confuse sympathy for soldiers ordered to undertake an impossible task with rational conclusions about the war that those soldiers are fighting.
