The gas is being turned off in Europe

It was only five short years ago when the energy policy of the United Kingdom was basically “let’s leave it to the free markets”. Later it was changed to “we must get our fair share of fuel”. However, as some of us pointed out then the markets are not at all free and are controlled by other nations. We are not entitled to a fair share of fuel, any more than, for example, we would have willingly given any other nation a fair share of our coal, which a hundred years ago made us a leading industrial nation.
