Eropean Emission Targets will become the law

The European Union’s climate change summit has resulted in modest and disappointing climate change measures. The leaders of the European Union’s 27 nation states have agreed on three targets which will help climate change, but not by as much as is needed. The plan is that the European Parliament will enact a law (the Parliament have still to debate and vote on the plan) to commit the EU to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 20% below the rate of emissions in 1990, and they plan to put this reduction into effect by 2020, in 12 years time. They also plan for renewables to provide 20% of the European Union’s energy by 2020, and cut energy use by 20% by 2020. Continue reading
