The Olympics that have been held in London are said to be the “greenest” ever” It is a fairly meaningless statement. Apparently the boast is founded upon the amount of recycling that has been done, but selling soft drinks in cans and hamburgers in polystyrene packaging and then recycling the cans and packaging does not the Olympics Green make. The enduring environmental image of these games has got to be the lack of any micro-generation on the Olympic village residences and the huge flame burning huge amounts of methane unnecessarily. Energy used from malignant sources and energy wasted will be the features of these Olympic games; I hope those responsible for organising the next games in Rio de Janeiro will do better than London’s poor environmental performance.

Rio has lots of sunlight Robert, a perfect place to promote green energy.
Methane when burnt produces the least amount of Co2, so for all intension purpouses the most responsible gas to burn foran olympic torch, the energy used to create it beforehand and refrigerate it is another matter entirely and counteracts any good intensions of being green.
As an engineer the way I see things is a renewable like your solar panels, is to make them very affordable and operator freindly to the general populous to install themselves.
When I say affordable I mean a complete system when fitted by the people themselves at the same cost of a fortnights holiday in Benidorm or a thousand pounds or so, this easily reached disposable income is the way forward.
Recycled materials recycling free energy, the one who does this could win a Noble Prise indeed.
Is there any chance someone might already have it waiting in the wings?.
A Rothschild has sailed his oceans and a laymans in Brazil have both used recycled plastic bottles to get to and what they need, so why not the general public.
Laws rules and regulations maybe.
