Governments fiddle all kinds of figures to enhance their reputations. We have now many standards for inflation, and from time to time the items that include inflation change, apparently to show it in its most favourable light at any time. Unemployment figures are similarly manipulated and it would seem so are figures of hospital waiting lists. It is an age old technique carried out by governments of all nations and persuasions. Stalin was notorious at this with published figures showing Soviet production in their five year plans constantly increasing while the population starved. It seems even figures for climate change are not immune from being manipulated in order to show something which is not true. (more…)
